We are Maurice and Laurence Baltissen.
And at the moment we are making a round the world trip!
We took a fascination in life when we were very young. And that is: when you are a little kid and you grow up, your clothes become too small for you. Our mother put these clothes in plastic bags and put them beside the road. A truck collected these clothes and they would bring them to poor countries in Africa! Every day when our dad came home from his work, he turned on the TV and watched the news! When Africa was on the news we were always looking for a kid with our clothes on! But it never happened!
So now we have decided to set up a brand new brand of T –shirts, so that someday we can sit on the couch, watch the TV and see one of our t-shirts on TV!
Every brand needs a visual identity, a logo, and a name!
I (Maurice) choose the name “Birthdaysuit” (the reason is that everyone is born naked in their birthday suit)!
I designed a logo (a smiling baby face with the light (that you see when you are born) in the back, and a party hat!)
and I printed 1000 Birthday suits T shirts to start with.
In every life it is normal that you grow up, you reach your adulthood on your strength, your talent, and the people you know. So these are the only things we are allowed use on this trip.
In 2013 we where dropped off in Lisbon. Naked! With no possessions, no clothes, no money, no tent, nothing.
The only thing what we brought with us were two big backpacks filled with Birthdaysuits T-shirts.
We intend to travel to every country in the world!
We started by hitchhiking, trading Birthdaysuit for food, shelter, clothes, etc.
We try to find a store in every country that will sell our Birthdaysuits which is going well so far.
With the money that comes in from these stores we can travel faster, and buy visa's.
We have already traveled to 45 countries in 6 months. So we are going pretty fast!
The people I know are on Facebook are our strength and our talent, so I started to use my Facebook friend as a way to travel.
We are asking everyday if somebody knows somebody to crash their couch.
These online people who are doing a digital job for me receive a digital reward; I take a picture from their facebook profile and draw it in a digital the logo of the Birthdaysuit. And I send it to them in a print file so they can print their own Birthdaysuit T-shirt.
We will make 3 trips; the first is from Portugal, to Japan. (And every country in between). The second one will start in Chile and goes to Alaska. And the last one across Africa! When we complete the trip we will have outlet stores in every country in the world. When we have completed our travels. There will still be money coming in from these stores and other outlets that sell Birthday suits.
With the money we are going to Africa to help poor children and to ajducate them. That they don't need our old clothes anymore.
